Hopefully it will become easier as I get more writing practice and finish recovering from "long Covid". It took me a while to figure how to conclude this piece, originally I was hoping to defend EA-funded AI safety efforts more forcefully but as I dug in I realized that wouldn't be intellectually honest.
Your assessment is quite accurate. I think the overhype of LLMs and other current AI/ML frameworks has contributed to this tension. We still cannot resolve the simpler and fundamental ML issues like the ones you pointed out in your insightful piece on AI & medicine.
