Hacking Darwin by Jamie Metzl 2020, 309 pgs including footnotes. Originally posted on my website in June, 2020. Reposted here with some editing. This book is an exploration of how we can genetically engineer our children, why we might want to do so, and what the consequences might be.
How distant is widespread use of embryo selection for intelligence from now? I followed this subject in the past, but haven't done so recently. Is it something that'll transpire soon, I think that will have a dramatic impact on the character of human society. Selfishly, as somebody who's average intelligence (IQ 115 to 120) and still quite young (30), a dramatic "leveling up" of society seems like it could leave people like me behind (at the very least, I anticipate a substantial loss of status relative to where I am right now). That's quite scary.
