>If you have trouble with waking up and feeling too hot in the middle of the night there is a simple solution - invest in a good AC unit, or turn down your heat!

My impression is that it's too hard to get a quiet enough AC for an apartment that doesn't have it built in. I find a ChiliPad to be quite valuable for the 2 or 3 days per year when running my AC before bedtime doesn't get the room down to 72 degrees.

Other than that, I agree with your advice.

Interesting Peter. Whenever I've had a window unit, I've found I've generally felt I benefited from the noise, as long as it wasn't turning on and off over and over in an obnoxious way. More expensive units are quieter, and the new "outside the window" "U-shaped" units are quieter still. (for instance https://www.wayfair.com/YODOLLA--Window-Air-Conditioner-14165WHW01-L6229-K~YDOL1154.html )

but I agree window-mount AC units can be annoying sometimes plus they let in street noise that otherwise would be blocked by glass.

Perhaps they need be more focus on ‘wake optimization.’

Yes. People don't understand that sleep and activity during the day are two sides of the same coin. If you are active (both in body and brain) during the day you will seep much better. If you are happy and not super stressed out during the day that also helps enormously.
